Solving tough problems requires the ability to define the true problem, analyze the possible causes, create options, select the most feasible option, applying creative thinking process and then implement it. This two-day workshop will help individuals enhance their efforts to find sustainable solutions and learn new ways to approach problem-solving to reach win-win decisions.

The ability to clearly reason through problems and to present solutions in an effective and logical manner, has become a key skill for survival in today’s world. This two-day workshop will give participants some practical tools and hands-on experience with problem solving and decision making skills.

Day 1 Morning:

  • why use a structured process?
  • pdca
  • introduction to the 8 dimension model
  • D1 prepare process /use a team approach/define & describe the problem
  • D2 identify and define root cause
  • D3 generate alternate solutions
  • D4 selecting solutions
  • D5 implement solutions
  • D6 evaluate and verify corrective actions
  • D7 standardize and  prevent recurrence
  • D8 kaizen and congratulate your team
  • Getting started with 8 d process:
  • D1 problem selection
  • Based on productivity/complains/delays
    • use a team approach
    • team selection and makeup
    • Group exercise : form teams, design a check sheet to collect data


Day 1 Afternoon:

  • D1 -describe the problem
  • The importance of collecting and interpreting data
  • Problem statements and operational definitions
  • Flow charts
  • Group exercise : use an is/is not worksheet to develop problem definition
  • D2 -define root cause
  • Root cause analysis methodology
  • Structured brainstorming techniques
  • Cause and effect (fishbone) diagrams
  • Repeated whys (5 whys)
  • Group exercise : use structured brainstorming methods, and a fishbone diagram to identify and classify possible root causes
  • Case study : airplane adhesive (objective of case study is to apply the brain storming technique to develop multitude of ideas and put to practice these skills in real life situations)
  • D3 & D4 generate alternate solutions & select solutions/ develop permanent corrective actions (Decision making process)
  • Developing an action plan
  • Error proofing (poka yoke)
  • Nominal group technique
  • Problem solving activities :
  • Group exercise : deriving 24 solutions on coin (objective of game : thinking out of box, analytical skills, multiple approach application, persistence and determination when solving problems)


Day 2 Morning:

  • D5 & D6 implement and evaluate the solutions
  • Putting the action plan into place
  • Force field analysis
  • Histograms
  • Scatter diagrams
  • Group Exercise: use a scatter diagram


Day 2 Afternoon:

  • Case study: strategic approach toward solutions
  • D7 & D8 standardize &kaizen( prevent recurrence)
  • Identifying recurrence issues
  • Leveraging your success for maximum roi
  • Value stream mapping (vsm)
  • Group Exercise : setting up s.o.p
  • Setting fluid sop to suit situations and customers requirement
  • Congratulating team on successful process
  • Group problem solving activities day 2:
  • sequential programming : side and alternate(25-45 minutes)

(objective : identifying problem, applying learned techniques, using  group communication skills, critical thinking skills & out of box thinking and application of derived solutions, flexibility in decision making)



Training Approach

This program is conducted in a workshop manner. A combination of lectures and more of group/ individual activities interwoven with Real Life Experiences, and discussion are based on EBKP (Evidence Based Knowledge and Practice).

It is also conducted with lots of fun filled activities and humour to encourage Adult Learning Concept.

Games , exercises, case study, discussion and experiential learning techniques, coupled with hands on approaches  are blended in this specially designed program
